In this day and age of rich documents with multimedia features, what can we say about plain text? Is there any place for it any longer?

In this talk poem Chris suggests that perhaps plain text is as relevant as ever. It has many admirable properties: small file size, readable, modifiable, can be converted to many different document formats, and will probably outlast most technology that employs it.
